Life skills for foster care youth Direction 61:3

The mission of our campaign is to provide support for young adults who are aging out or have aged out of the foster care system through life skills lessons. These are primarily young adults who have never had a permanent home, family, or support system and who are entering adulthood without the support, tools, and life skills necessary for adult life. The money from this campaign will directly provide resources that help these young adults gain the personal skills needed for a transition into independent adulthood.

Direction 61:3 exists to serve this population through their housing, transportation, education, and life skills programs. As a 501(c)3 and a licensed Child Placing Agency the organization has partnerships throughout the foster care system and local community. The existing range of services and partnerships of Direction 61:3 will enhance the campaign's ability to reach people in this community through the organizations already established networks and programs.

Funds raised through this GoFundMe campaign will support the life skills Thrive program within Direction 61:3. This program provides weekly life skills lessons and is designed to provide life skills while also providing an opportunity for these young adults to feel loved and cared for.

Reaching the $500 goal would provide up to 3 life skills nights for 10-15 kids and young adults. Each lesson includes a meal, a gift for participants, and a door prize for house parents that bring children. $75 would cover meals for a lesson, $5 covers a gift that will be given to a participant, and $50 would provide a gift card to a parent to take their foster children out to dinner. Additional money covers supplies and materials used in each lesson.
