Safe Place! Safe Space!

The war between Russia and Ukraine has caused one of the fastest large-scale displacements of children since World War II. More than 1.8 million children have crossed into neighboring countries as refugees, and 2.5 million people have been internally displaced within Ukraine. Various forms of aid have been created to help provide relief from the current invasion; however, we want to bring awareness to creating child-friendly spaces for those fleeing Ukraine. What kids internalize at a young age can be detrimental to their early development and childhood if they do not have the proper outlets to heal and express how they feel. We want to help children receive the help they may need when they arrive at a safe place.

To accomplish this social need, we have decided to partner with Amurtel, whose mission is “to provide immediate and long-term relief to women and children in need in a manner that improves their overall quality of life. If women have access to education, health care, economic reliance, and a voice to determine their progress, this will in turn be reflected in the improved welfare of their children and community.”

We are asking for help raising $500 to give to this organization to provide toys, art supplies, musical instruments, sports equipment, and other things that make the children feel welcome and connect with others, including volunteer training and psycho-social support and protection. Our campaign will donate all the funds earned to our nonprofit campaign partner Amurtel to help children whose lives have been so brutally disrupted by providing them food, shelter, clothing, and a safe place for them to process their trauma and feel cared for.
